Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate what percentage one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 45 out of 150 is (45 ÷ 150) × 100 = 30%. The 'X is what percent of Y' mode does this for you.
What is the difference between percentage change and percentage points?
Percentage change is relative: going from 10% to 15% is a 50% increase. Percentage points are absolute: that same move is a 5 percentage-point increase. This tool reports relative percentage change.
Does the calculator round the result?
Results are shown to a sensible number of decimals and trailing zeros are trimmed. The underlying calculation uses full precision.
