Frequently asked questions
- How is reading time estimated?
- Reading time assumes an average of about 200–230 words per minute for silent reading. Speaking time uses a slower rate of around 130 words per minute.
- How are words counted?
- Words are counted as runs of non-whitespace characters, which matches how most word processors count. Numbers and hyphenated terms count as single words.
- Is my text saved or uploaded?
- No. The counter runs entirely in your browser and nothing you type is stored or transmitted.
